The MATCHCAP can carry all sizes of matches from the standard kitchen strike-on-the-box to NATO lifeboat matches and even the extended length matches sold by REI. With the dual-striker design you can use safety matches, strike-anywhere matches, or a combination of two. An O-ring keeps both the matches and the red phosphorus (strike-on-the-box) striker dry. Caution:
Do not overfill the MATCHCAP. Leave approximately ¼ of the volume empty. When using the phosphorus striker on the top of the MATCHCAP it is advisable to strike from the top (opening) towards the O-ring. This will prevent any stray sparks from entering the inside of the MATCHCAP.
Tom's Tests
We've been testing this for a couple weeks now and it's great! We filled it with matches and wetfire tinder. Then let it soak in a water filled cup for a week and no leaks. Then we ran it through a dishwasher three times and no leaks.
I also ran it over with my 7000 pound Ford Excursion. We drove over it twice. All it did was scuff it up a little bit. Other than that, it's as good as new!
After this, I put it in my hot tub for three weeks, it did not leak!
I finally broke it! I dropped a cinder block on it 4 times. The first time it dented it, but while I would not be able to unscrew it as it was no longer perfectly round, it still maintained it's integrity and was not broken. As I dropped the block on it 3 more times to try to re-round it so I could open it, it finally cracked on the end on the 4th drop from about 5 feet onto a paved parking lot.
